Twenty eight miles off the Cornish coast, lie the mystical Scilly Isles. They consist of a cluster of granite islands, five of which are inhabited: St. Mary's, Tresco, St. Martin's, Bryher and St Agnes, and an array of unpopulated isles, reefs and rocky islets.
These islands make a perfect ‘get-away-from-it-all’ destination with their mild climate, wonderful views, crystal clear waters, magnificent wildlife and glorious beaches.
Most of the islands’ 2000 population work in the sphere of tourism, yet the traditional industries of farming and fishing are still alive and well - many of the working population are self-sufficient in these areas from carpenters to shopkeepers and farmers.
St Mary’s is the largest island with the most inhabitants and is the administrative centre of the islands with the main year-round links to the mainland.
Only two and a half miles long by one and three-quarter miles wide, you will not have to go far to find shops, banks, galleries, pubs, museums, and a selection of places to eat, as well as a group of launches and pleasure cruises to take you to the other islands seven days a week from April to end October and through the Winter but on a less regular basis.
Each island has its own individual charm and character, but all have a common feature – clean sparkling water, soft white sand, rocky granite coastlines, springy turf and wonderful views.
