St Ives is magnificently located, overlooking a crescent of beaches, this very popular seaside and fishing town on the West Cornish coastline has much to offer visitors of all tastes. Ablaze with colour (St Ives often wins the Britain in Bloom competition) the picturesque fishing harbour is home to many delightful fishermen’s cottages, many still with their original steps to the first floor doorway. The enchanting maze of winding streets and hidden corners reveal delights at every turn.

For walkers this area is particularly lovely with arguably some of the best coastline in Cornwall- try walking to Lelant and then return on the branch train line – one of the most spectacular railway journeys in Cornwall. Delight in the view across to Godrevy lighthouse, commemorated by the novelist Virginia Wolfe.

The beaches are equally spectacular - Porthmeor faces the Atlantic Ocean and is well liked by surfers. Around the headland you will come across the broad sweep of Carbis Bay and Porthminster Beach. Alternatively take a boat trip down the coast to Seal Island where you may catch sight of some seals!

At night the cafes, restaurants and bars come alive and the town has a truly cosmopolitan ambience.

Particularly liked by artists, this fishing town with its cobbled alleys is home to the Tate Gallery, Bernard Leach Pottery as well as many other studios, galleries and craft shops.

The Tate, part of the Tate gallery in London, opened in St. Ives in 1993 and is quite possibly the pinnacle of Cornish art. The Barbara Hepworth museum, part of the Tate gallery, is an ongoing tribute to the sculptress who lived and worked in St.Ives and is well worth a visit.
